End Blog 4: Foreshadowing
The death of Candy's dog and the presence of the gun helped to foreshadow the tragic end of the book. What other bits of dialogue, symbols, or events also hinted to the end of the book?
George told Lennie to look down the river and picture their American Dream. He told Lennie about the farm they were going to buy and the rabbits he would tend to. George also told Lennie that he wasnt mad at him for killing the pup or Curleys wife. In any other situation, George would have been mad but because it was the last conversation he would ever have with Lennie, he wasnt.
I seen Lennie hurting more than mice because it was soft. Lennie was petting curlys wifes hair because it was soft and then he ended up killing her. He is so strong when he touches things he tends to hurt them.
The other hints i had about the ending throughout the book was that Lennie liked to touch soft things. They got chased out of Weed because of the dress problem, and then he snapped Curly's wife's neck because he liked to touch her hair. either way, his like for soft things got him into trouble both times. I still didn't see the death of lennie coming, but i did predict a problem was going to happen due to his like of soft things.
The fact that Lennie likes to touch soft things led to him touching Curly's wife's hair. Also Lennie not knowing his own strenght led to Curly's wife's death. Both of these characteristics of Lennie's were talked about in the first chapter, so I knew those were forshadowing moments.
What helped me forshadow what was going help happen to Lennie was when George told Lennie to not asscoiate with Curly's wife. When Curly's wife talked to Lennie and Lennie stopped ignoring Curly's wife I knew Lennie was in trouble.
Some events that forshadowed the end of the book was in the beginning, George was telling Lennie if he ever got in trouble to come back to this exact spot and hide in the bushes and wait until he came back to get him. Obviously something tragic was going to happen. When Lennie killed Curly's wife, that was a given that Lennie was going to be in big time trouble, especially when Curly found out. Lennie was bound to get shot in the very last chapter because of all the bad things Lennie had mistakingly done and how the whole clan left to search him to kill him.
One thing that hinted to the end of the book was when George and Lennie were in the brush at the very beginning of the book George said, " If you ever do anything and get into trouble, come back to this brush and wait for me." or something similar to that. This hinted to the ending when Lennie comes back into the brush where he dies.
I think that the fact that Lennie had gotten in trouble multiple times before and that George had told Lennie to hide in the bush if anything happened foreshadowed that Lennie was going to get in trouble once again and something terrible was going to happen.
The character that I think is the loneliest in the book would have to be Crooks. The reason why is because he stays in his room by himself all the time, 24/7. He doesn't do anything but rub the liminent on his back. And, he asks if he can come along with Lennie and George dream. :)
I think that some other hints could be lennie and how he likes to touch soft things. Lennie like to touch rabbits and since he is so tough he kills everything.
Lennie had a past of killing. Lennie killed mice, but that wasn't really a big deal to anyone. Then, Lennie goes and ends up killing the puppy. These too things really ment A LOT to Lennie. Having them killed foreshadowed that maybe someone else real close to someone will have to die. Another example of this is, Candy's dog. Candy's dog ment sooo much to Candy and he was killed also. That is also someone tat ment a long to someone. Lastly, Lennie goes and ends up killing Curly's wife. At that point, your knew something just had to happen to Lennie. It makes sense because George means so much to Lennie. The ones close have to go at some point in your life.
i think that curly's wife is a symbol because when candy first started describing her i knew that she was trouble and that something would have happened to her. lennie tried to tell her that he cant talk to her and she just said oh they're playing horseshoes they wont know, but she never listened and if she would have then lennie would be alive she wouldn't be dead and the dream would have most likely come true. just a completely different ending would have been written
Lennie's liking of soft things and how he was alone with Curley's wife and how he got in trouble in Weed was foreshadowing. He touched Curley's wife's soft hair was going to end badly. He killed lots of soft things he touched.
I think that George's descripted story to Lennie about what to do if he got in trouble was a way to foreshadown. Also, George repeatedly told Lennie to stay away from people because he knew that he was going to break his trust.
I think Lennie's need to touch soft things helped to foreshadow the ending of the book. Lennie loved to touch soft things and as a result Lennie did not pass down the opportunity to touch Curley's wife's hair. In the end, Lennie's petting soft things and accidently killing them, occured again. Lennie killed Curley's wife and this was foreshadowed with Lennie's love for soft things.
Lennie touching the girl in weed and them having to be run out of the town, then the fact that Curly's wife is a flirt and she would try to get him into trouble if she could just like she did with Crooks.
other things that could of shown is gorge loseing patience with lennie alot and the incident in weeds plus as soon as he killed curlys wife you would automaticly assume that lennie was going to die
Another event that hinted the ending to the book was with the accident in weed where Lennie touched a girl and panicked and would not let go then he hurt no one. later on in the story when Lennie first saw Curly's wife he stared and George noticed and made a point with Lennie to stay away from her or there might be trouble again like in weed.
Another event was when Curly's wife told Lennie that he could touch her hair and he knew that he shouldn't have touched it. And Another one is the incident that happened in Weed with the girl and the dress and Lennie knew that after what he had done in Weed and the mouse and puppy was probably why Lennie shouldn'y have touched her hair.
Lennie when he touched the girls dress and got kicked out of weed. Cause he wouldnt let go of her dress and she freaked out about it. Ad alos that george told lennie if he got into trouble was a way of forshadowing.
the gun and the death of the dog foreshadowed the death of lennie, but one thing that stood out to me was the way he shot the dog, cause it ended up being the way George shot Lennie, because it was quick and painless, and he would never know what hit him. and another thing that foreshadowed the death of lennie was when he killed Curly's wife
Some of the forshadowing that I noticed was every time George said how much better off he'd be withour Lennie. Then his fear of George not letting him tend the rabbits.
The end of the book was foreshadowed in many ways. Candy's dog being shot is the main way but htere are other tings too. Geroge constantly saying to Lennie to stay out of trouble made me think about the trouble that was to come. I also thought about the possible ending when we met Curly's wife and George said about staying away form her because she would cause trouble.I saw the ending coming because of many things and I believe this book was well foreshadowed.
i think that the foreshadowing during the story that i saw was how lennie would always kill his mice that he got. every thing that he got that was alive and fluffy he killed so i thought that he would get killed and he acutally did.
It showed me plenty of forshadowing.I always knew that Curl's wife were going to get herself into a deep hole.And that Lennie was going to get into much deeper trouble.
i think the forshadowing durning the story was when lennie and george go chased out of weed because he likes to touch soft thing and pritty thing so in weed he touched the lille girls dress and then when he had the mice he killed them and also the puppy but then curlys wife came along talking to him and so told him that she also liked soft things so she let lennie touch her hair and then lennie ended up snapping her neck
I think the clues are if they can kill candy dog with no problem and say if they were suffering and old and sick they would want someone to kill them so that kind of gives clues to lennies death if they can shoot on thing they can shoot mulitple.
I think that the foreshadowing started when Lennie killed the mice. This showed that Lennie can be violent but without meaning. Another thing is how Lennie loves soft things, so when he was with Curly's wife you knew he would touch something.
I think that the fact that Lennie liked to touch soft things and that he and George got run out of Weed because of it was foreshadowing that it was going to happen again, and it did with Curly's Wife.
the cycle crooks was stuck in made it seem like not only crooks was stuck in a loop but everyone in the book plus the whole ranch itself was stuck in the same loop. so anything that happened by the middle of the book was going to repeat itself in a small way.
I think how Lennie killed the mice in the beginning, then the puppy and Curly's wife near the end foreshadowed the end of the book.
