Grad party turns tragic in West Van

Published: Tuesday, June 10, 2008A high school student is fighting for his life in the hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a weekend graduation celebration.
The Grade 12 student at West Vancouver secondary school struck his head on a parking lot post while leaning out of a passing car, police said in a press release Monday.
The teen is in grave condition Lions Gate Hospital.
West Vancouver police said he has been in a coma since the accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
West Vancouver police said their investigation found that five Grade 12 students were driving around the Park Royal shopping centre parking lot as they celebrated their high school graduation.
"Apparently one of the passengers in the car was not in his seat while the vehicle was moving and had positioned himself outside of the rear window," police said.
"It appears at this time that his head struck a post as the vehicle drove past."

ReplyDelete2. drinking could have been a cause to the tragedy because when you're drunk you usually do stupid things. another reason is that he was with his friends and he thought it'd be cool to stick his head out of the window.
well they were probably drinking and didn't know what they were doing.he stuck his head out of the window because he probaly had to puke from so much alcohol, or he was high and was enjoying the wind.

ReplyDelete2.Out of the five guys in the car, they may have influenced him to stick his head out the window becaue maybe they wanted to yell something and the boy who was struck was the one that offered to do. He prob didn't think anything of it and it seemed like a fun and thrilling thing to do. Esp since his friends all encouraged it too.
Obviously the teens in the car where drinking or doing some drugs. Maybe the driver knew that the kid was leaning out and he didn't like him. Maybe the kid leaning out wanted to get hit.
ReplyDeleteI think that a group of kids after graduation were drinking and were highly intoxicated. They decided to take a drive and the alcohol had soon took advantage. The driver was obviously driving way too fast and had no self control. Both him and the boy who had stuck his head out the window had delayed reactions.
ReplyDeleteWell, usually, these days, kids drink beer and smoke weed at parties. I feel that if you were stupid enough to stick your head out of the car window, you're probably on something.
ReplyDeleteAnother cause of the boy who stuck his head out the car, another cause could have been the driver of the car could've been drunk or high as well.
They might have been drinking or doing drugs. they might have dared him to do that or he wanted to do it for fun.

ReplyDeleteThey were probably drinking then went out driving. If they weren't drinking, he had been in a seatbelt, and inside the car he may not have went to the hospital.

ReplyDelete1. There are numerous things that could have been going on at the weekend graduation celebration. Most likely, the students were celebrating by drinking alcohol. It is also possible that drugs were involved.
ReplyDelete2. Alcohol might have been a cause that lead to the tragedy. The students may have acted in this "stupid" manner because they were drunk. Also, if the students were participating in drug activities, they may have been lead to this behavior.
I think that there were a few parties going on and they were drunk and weren't thinking. Meaning they weren't all there and someone probably dared them to stick there head out of the car, too look cool.

The kids in the car were probably high or drunk while this happened. The child that did this was messed up so he didnt have time to react as they approached the pole.
ReplyDeleteWhen this person hit his head I believe he was completely waisted. I mean he may have stuck his head out the window to throw up, but who knows. The paper left out information about what they friends said was actually occuring before they were riding around at night. What idoit would drive around maybe doing doughnuts in a parking lot. The boy who had his head out the window may have been too drunk and dizzy to see the pole coming at him.
ReplyDeleteChances are they were drinking before they got into the car and they weren't thinking clearly. One cause of this tragedy was that they choose to get into the car and the driver was probably driving too fast. With the car going too fast and the delayed reaction from the alcohol the kid who had his head out the window probably didn't have enough time to move before he hit the pole.
ReplyDeleteDuring the time of the accident the graduates may have been on their way to a party, i think it was a little bit too early for them to be drinking, so maybe they could have stopped for something to eat and were fooling around in the parking lot. The student may have just been trying to show off for his friends and decided to hang out of the window to get some attention. Me and my friends do stupid things while we're driving, like talk to eachother on the road by screaming out of the window. This could also have been the case.
ReplyDeleteI think some of the things that were going on during this "weekend graduation celebration" were most likely questionable, such as drinking and driving or even doing drugs. One of the things that may have caused this tragedy to occur could be that a friend had 'suggested' that the young man do what caused him to receive this injury because it would be funny to yell out the window or something like that.
ReplyDeleteThis student obviosly wasn't thinking right when he stuck his head out of the car window while they were driving around the parking lot. I think they could've been drinking or even doing some kind of drug when they were celebrating thier graduation. The person driving the car could've purposefully drove toward the post to try to scare his friend that had his head out the window. That could've lead to the tragic accident.

ReplyDelete2. another cause could be the fact that he was with his friends, they just graduated high school, and he felt like he was on top of the world for being able to graduate. he was just having fun and probably not paying attention.
well obviously they werent in the right state of mind due to drinking. since they graduated they're happy and want to "have fun" but that obviously turned to a tragic accident and the result of that was that one of the teens ended up in critical condition in the hospital. they could have been playing some kind of game and being really stupid like a dare game. like how a car went off a cliff from playing chicken so they could have been doing some thing stupid like that....or peer pressure while being under the influence
ReplyDeleteI think they were drunk because someone who isn't sober would stick out of a moving car and hit thier head off a sign. They couldn't have been smoking pot because it will make a little paranoid. Ususally there are a lot of misconceptions about marijuania. It was probably that they were drinking.

ReplyDelete2. The cause of the accident may have been the victim was drunk or high and not in the right state of mind when he stuck his head out the window. Not being in the right state of mind can cloud the judgment and if the driver was drunk or high then they may not have noticed the danger that was being posed by driving under these conditions.
I think the teens where partying and drinking and i think it could have been and influence.
ReplyDeleteI think that probably the driver was either drunk or he was drunk.The other cause could have been him being high off of drugs other than liquor.Or he could have been peer pressured.
