In chapter 6 Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally discover the old church on fire and children missing. Ponyboy immediately runs into rescue the children trapped in the fire. Johnny and Dally follow him.

It shows that Greasers aren't all bad. Ponyboy is a hero and not a hood. Again to reinforce the fact that Greasers are human. It will help them with the police chasing them for killing Bob.

She had a guy, Dally, that didn't seem to care about anything save little children. It is a way to show other personallities. Her motivation was that just because Johnny did kill someone he didn't mean it in a good way, it was out of saftey. Like Johnny really is a good hearted kid or he wouldn't have saved children. She wanted to show us that so that is why she put a scene like that in.
3. I think the effects are that maybe they won't cause fights anymore because they don't want the name of a murderer but of a hero. They might even try to resolve things with the Socs.
1.It tells that Greasers do have feelings and that they do care. Ponyboy is specified because he doesnt like fighting or doing the wrong thing and he tries to do good in school. He's not as mean as some of the other Greasers, he thinks differently than them.

When Ponyboy and Johnny go into the burning church to save the children trapped inside, shows a lot of courage. This scene shows the greasers and how they care for other people and like to help out. Ponyboy looks out for other people and tries to help them in everyway. This reflects that greasers are not bad people. They can be just like any other person and everyone is equal. I think the author wanted to put this in the story for that reason. I think that this scene will live on forever and Ponyboy, Johnny, as well as Dally wil remain a hero i also predict that they will be forgiven for their ealier crime.

I think the author put them into this scene to show that they had those qualities and to show people who misunderstand them in a different light. I think that Ponyboy and Johnny may get a lighter punishment somehow or something bad may happen to one of the three boys in the hospital.

people never thought that the greasers could become heroes. the headline of that paper said juvenile delinquents turns heroes. the paper had mentioned the murder of bob and every thing that happened and then saving the kids, it would help them to get out of trouble. i think she put this scene in the book to show that johnny, pony and dally are all heroes and in reality greasers aren't bad people after all, they're just different in their own way. i predict that this will help the three get out of trouble or lessen the penalties and maybe things will start to change for the better
ReplyDelete1. I was able to see the true characters behind the rough faces and greased hair after the fire scene. Specifically, Ponyboy, he may get into fights with other gangs but when tragity hits he's able to forget about who he's suppose to be and suppose to act like to help another in need. This stereotype of what the greasers really are may not fall under risking your life but Pony was able to step out of those boundaries to do what's right.
