Over the last couple of days you have been researching discrimination which exists all over the world. Instead of a presentation, we will use the blog format to share your articles with the rest of the class. This blog is worth 10 points.
To receive the 10 points you must, in complete sentences:
1. Provide the name of the article in quotation marks, and provide a short description of the discrimination in your article.
2. Provide a short description of your reflection and opinion
3. Give at least one of the ideas you had for easing the discrimination
On Tuesday, 3/3, you will read the entries of the other students. Choose one student's article and provide another suggestion for easing the discrimination.

"Can Guys Really Enjoy Chick Flicks?"
ReplyDeleteThe discrimination in my article is that they don't think guys can enjoy Chick Flicks. Even the name "Chick Flicks" is discrimination making it seem like only chicks can watch these movies. In the article it is about the new movie He's Just Not That Into You. They have named it a Chick Flick, but in reality guys can really enjoy and they have proof. SOme guys watched it and they really seemed to like it. We all know when guys hear the word Chick Flicks they try to run away or you know have other plans. This movie is different and actually gives you the real life reality. Chick Flicks are getting harder to avoid, and guys really shouldn't have to just because it is a CHICK FLICK.
My relection and opinion is that i know deep down inside that guys can somehow enjoy any chick flicks. They aren't that bad and guys need to not be so ashamed of them. My article shows guys coming out of their shell and it makes me happy because at some point chick flicks need to not be none for just chicks. Everyone can really enjoy them, especially guys too.
One reason to ease the discrimination is just to not automatically give movies the name of Chick Flicks. If you don't give them the genre of being a chick flick, a lot more people might go and watch them. Guys might actually be able to enjoy them also without being embarrassed.
My article was named, "Anti-Israel is New Anti-Semitism." This article discribed a rally that happened in San Franscisco, where Israelian people gathered and discriminated against Jewish people. They tried to push discrimination off of them and put the focus back on mainly Jews. I thought the author was right in that saying terrorists had labeled all Israelians as bad people, so they rallied to stop it towards them and back on to Jews. It shocks me that to stop discrimination you must discriminated yourself against another group. I think to resolve this problem is to maybe, just maybe, not discriminate. As easy as that sounds it is so hard to stop that entirely in the world.
ReplyDelete"activists call for laws to protect gay couples." there are many types of discrimination, but the type i did my research on was against gay couples. people discriminate against them and say they cant live together and that it's not right. the gov't has to protect their rights. personally i think they should be allowed to do whatever because it's their lives and people are telling them how to live their lives
ReplyDeleteI read an article about discrimination against freedom of religion and civil rights called, " 'You can't preach the Bible here, this is a Muslim area': What police told Christian preachers." This article was about two Christian preachers who were stopped by Muslim police from passing out Bibles in a Muslim community. They were told that trying to convert Muslims into Christians is a hate crime and were threatened. The police told them that if they ever come back to Alum Rock area, they could possibly be hurt. I was shocked after reading this article. I could not believe that these two mens had their religious rights taken from them. I was angry when I heard that the men were threatened because everyone has the right to express their faith freely. One idea I had for easing the discrimination was for London, the area where event happened, to set up laws to protect freedom of religion. In America, we have laws that provide all Americans with freedom of religion. The discrimination in London may be eased if laws were set up to protect their freedom.
ReplyDelete"Movies With A Message"
ReplyDelete"Movies With A Message" was mainly about how people are getting turned down to act in movies because of what they look like. If the person had different color skin, they wouldn't give them a certain part. The creators of the movies would purposely make the message horrible or see bad instead of good. I don't think it's right to judge someone because of their skin, they are a human being and they live in this world, their just like everyone else.
My reflection on this story is just simply it's not right to judge people. I understand people are racist but that should stop people from giving it their all on everything they do.
One of the ideas that I had for easing the discrimination was to give people a chance to act or run a business. The creators of the movies and the presidents of a certain company should see that everyone is the same even though they have different color skin.
My article is about how the U.N. thinks the economic crisis will fuel racism. Antonio Guterres, the world body's high commisioner for the refugees told Canberra, Austraila that migrants and refugees can be blamed.
ReplyDeleteThe name of my article was "Age Discrimination Costs Adesa $200K". It was about a wholesale company in New York who was supposed to be cutting workers, but instead fired employees who were over forty and hired younger employees. One way that discrimination like this can be prevented is by the government reinforcing laws that give everyone an equal opportunity at employment.
ReplyDelete"Lesbian couple say M.D refuses them treatment." The homosexual couple now has filed a human-rights complaint against Ms. Elias who had refused to look at the couple. Andrea and Ginette Markowski claim she told htem to visit another doctor who had more experience in these "types of patients." The doctor also told them that because they're homosexual they can carry alot of diseases and infections other patients don't. Ms. Elias goes on to say that homosexual couples was against her religion however this doesn't play a role in her refusal. As soon as i read this article I was appalled. I couldn't believe that someone was turned away from a doctor because of their sexuality. I feel that even if there was a trend in diseases in homosexual couples a doctor still should and would be able to treat and care for any type of patient. This was the work place and as soon as any working person enters the door all religious and political issues should be left at the door. One way of solving this issue is to fire Dr. Elias to prove that results of discrimination will occur if you make an issue out of the situation. Secondly, you could more strict regulations of refusal of patients to avoid these problems. Finally, more awareness programs should be set up in towns to confront these differences instead of it leading to problems in the workplace.
ReplyDelete"Met no longer institutionally racist". The macpherson report was published after the murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence, helping to usher in a few era of policing and race relations in Britian.
ReplyDeleteI think its stupid that a white person would kill a black person for no reason. You shouldnt kill a black person just becuase they are black.
They should mix up the cops and have some black cops in there instead of all white ones. Black leaders could get with white leaders and show that they can get along. To show that they are all the same. They could celebrate their differences and show their accomplishments to white people. They can show all the positive aspects.
1."A Transsexual vs. The Government"
ReplyDeleteThe discrimination within this article takes place when Preece denies Schroer a job for the CRS because of him becoming a woman.
2. My reflection of this article was that i was shocked because Schroer got immediately denied the job after he tried not to lie about becoming a transsexual. I thought that it was wrong for him to get denied the job because if everyone discriminated the world would be a horrible place.
3. Peoples minds would have to be able to change and accept the fact that everyone is different. Companies shouldnt be able to find loop holes around discrimination and follow legal ways.
"US financial crisis causes spike in online anti-semitism: monitor"
ReplyDeleteThe article talks about the US financial crisis and how it has lead to an increase of anti-semitism online. It is on message boards and ISPs are having difficulity deleting it all. The increase of anti-semitism is happening because people use Jews as scapegoats in hard times.
This doesn't surprise me at all because there is anti-Semitism in many places and that includes the internet. It angers me because I believe anti-semitism is wrong.
One way to ease the discrimination would be to make laws for what can be said about anti-semitism and such online.
"JK Rowling reavealed to be world's top earning author at a cool 3 million british pounds a week"
ReplyDeleteThis artlice is about JK Rowling earning mor than the nine worlds best-selling authors combined. She also recives a percentage of the profits from the Harry Potter films. Just a decade ago, she was a single mom stuggling for money. She sold 150 million books and is starting to write a childrens book.
People think that men authors succeed more over women authors, which is not true. I think that its very great that she sold so many books and got a lot of money for them. She deserved it. Me, being a Harry Potter fan, shocks me that people can discriminate this way. This article shows that she gives people a right to say girl authors can succeed greatly too.
Just like you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge it by its gener of author either. Books should be sold according to the synopsis, whats the stories about. I'snt that what a book is? The material inside it, not the cover. People should just stop discrimintaing and looking at the gender of the author, unless its for good and looking up information and learning more about him/ her. (:
the name of the article is police women wins 55000 dollers. this police officer has been harassed and everything from this one police offer named jacinta mackie. i think that it is not right for guys to do that with girls. they have the right to do what ever they want.
ReplyDeletei am researching the Anti-muslim webposting that sparked rights complaint becouse a local muslim leader launched a human rights cpmplaint againsyt a website of a defunct magazine, claming a recent string of user comments on it's blog promote hatred against followers of islam. i think this kind of racism started when 911 happend and everybody thinks when a muslim walks into a bank or on a plane, everybody thinks terrist. Not all muslims are terrists.
ReplyDelete"Activists call for laws to protect gay couples’ rights"
ReplyDelete(http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2008/10/03/2003424925)
If you are against homosexual's, then dont be one. dont stop other people who are, from having the same luxuries as heterosexuals. if you dont like the thought of guy marrying guy, girl marrying girl, then ignor it, homosexuals miss out; "married couples receive tax breaks and better mortgage rates, and are entitled to collect each other’s labor insurance payments or share common property." so the only argument people have left to argue with is that its against the bible and it be-little's heterosexual's meaning to "marriage". suck it up. seriously, we're not going to give gays their own state and only let them live there, you cant acheive what hitler did, and you cant kill them all. dont like it, dont try it. find something better to do than take something away from people who are different.
My title of my article is called " Obama signs orders". It was about obama wants to close secrets prisons and guantanamo. And the detention camp also. This was held on thursday in washington. I think it is not right for obama to do that. He is trying to get people out of the detention camp. NO!People can stop this by telling obama no and dont vote on what he votes for.
ReplyDeleteThe name of my article was "transexual Vs. the Government." It was mostly about a guy named David Schroer, who was recomended to organize and run a classified antiterrorism organization. He didnt get the job tho because he was going to have a sex change, to change from a man to a women. I thought that if he was well trained and knew what he was doing then, what he does in his personal life should not affect his job life.
ReplyDelete"Iowa Cops Fined #25 in Alleged Assault"
ReplyDeleteTwo officers by the names Ronald D. Hansen age 42, and Joshua D. Driscoll age 28. The two officers were ordered by Douglas County Judge Craig McDermott to pay $25 fine and court costs in connection with their alleged assault upon Justin Peck in an Omaha convenience store. They beat him and tasered him 4 times during this time.
In my opinion that is discrimination because the two cops abused their power on a man. They tasered him 4 times which it usually takes 1 taser to do the job but they used it 4 times. This shocked me because it was two cops who did this.
If I was one of the officers I would've just tasered him only once, not 4 times, and I wouldn't have beat him after I tasered him.
"Musslim cop argues for right to wear head scarf" she wanted to wear a head scarf during work but her commanding officers wouldnt let her. i would of agreed with her commanding officers. it could get in the way when shes in the field. i would tell her to quit if she didnt like the rules
ReplyDeletein my article of dicrimination, i have something called islamaphobia, which is the fear of islamic people. a good example of this is on the move harold and kumar escape from gwantonimo bay, in the movie a senior citizen mistakens a character kumar, a dark skined but not islamic for a terrorist and envisions him threatening to crash the plane, and he is tossed into gwantonimo bay, this sort of intolerence happens every day, it is not humerous of course but nevertheless, people assume that eveybody of the islamic race wants to crash a plane, thats not funny, or scary, thats stupid to assume that
ReplyDelete"Bomb Attacks on French Synoagogues"
ReplyDeleteTwo petrol bombs were tossed into a synoagogue while the Rabbi of the synogogue, and the perpetrators also spraypainted "Kill the Jews" as well as "Free Gaza" and "Long Live Palenstine". When they interviewed the Rabbi, he said "it was a cowardly act"
In my opinion I think that this act of discrimination is stupid, and that the scum that did it are cowards, and are ignorant for what they did, the jews have been through enough throughout the years.
Truthfully i dont think there is anything that can be done to help get rid of this problem but to patrol that area a little tougher, and watch it closely
"Holocaust-denial Bishop Richard William"
ReplyDeleteA British Bishop named Richard Williamson denied the holocaust and has been orderd to leave argentina or face expulsion
on Thursday,Feb,90.
I think that a bishop should know more and not be so ignorant but am happy that most others think so.
One idea i have to ease discrimination against the Jewish is to make an educational video including footage of concentration camps during and after the war.
1. "Schools demand contract for gay students" This article is about the discrimination of gay students in schools in New Zealand. The schools are making the gay students sign a contract before they take a same-sex partner to a dance declaring they are homosexual.
ReplyDelete2. In my opinion, this discrimination isn't right, especially in schools. Teenagers struggle with their sexuality, sometimes. This can increase teasing at school, too. It is also their life and they can make this desicion without the school having to be involved.
3. Something that would ease this discrimination would be a law that bans any sexual discrimination.
"A Muslim woman too orthodox for France" this article is about a muslim women trying to get her citizenship to france. France wouldnt allow this woman become a citizen becuase of were she came from and what she was wearing that day. Also The french had judged someone just of what they were seen in. It also had said that citizenship has only been denied on religious grounds in France.
ReplyDeleteMy reflection is that i dont think that the french should have treated a women with this kind of attitude. I also dont think that people should judge you on what you are wearing but they could judge you on were you are from sometimes.
One reason to ease this problem could be that there could be a law that states that some illegal immagrants should be questioned and or taken somewere were they could be taken in before taken back home.
Comments: The article I read was titled " Trevor Phillips: Why Brittain is the LEAST racist country in Europe." The article was about a parent remembering an assault that they saw when they were taking their daughter to a football game in Chelsea, London. The parent saw an officer attack a black man named Carlton Palmer who played for Leeds. The police officer called him a " long legged black fool" and when he realized that the parent was paying attention he appologized to the parent saying " no offense". This shocked me because now they are saying that it is the least racist country unless you are white, which made no sense to me because of the past racism against black people. I thought that this could be solved by setting laws about officers assaulting citizens out of now where.
ReplyDeleteComments: gays and lesbins must be treated as equal members of human family is the titles of my artical. My artical is about homoseuality and how people are so against it that they are killed because of it. This artical makes me so irratated that people cant mind there own buisness and let people live there lives how they want, loving who they want.Just becuse they love the same sex dont mean anything. one way that this discrimation could be stoped is if everyone minded there own buisness and lived there life there own way instead of minding everyone else buisness and living life through them.
ReplyDeletemine is on shon if u are a guy and want to be a girl then go for it be what you want to do nothing can stop you be or do what you want.
ReplyDeleteResponding to Shannon's article: I agree about homosexual people being equals. They are people just like the rest of us and There are many ways to handle this issue of the discrimination against them. I also agree that if evey one minded their own business and lived their own way is a solution but there are other ways to handle this issue. Another way is to set laws against open discrimination in general and I know that freedom of speech would play a part in that, but the homosexuals have rights to safety as well.
ReplyDeleteI am Speaking about John Mcdownalds artical about the fear of Islamics. I think that we should not let one group of individuals shape what we think about an entire nation. We should not be scared of all Islamics, we have a right to be afrade but some of these insidents are rediculios. I realy don't have any idea how to fix these problems but I am sure that someone can.
ReplyDeleteI am responding to jen's comment. I dont believe how people can be so racist. Everyone should not be so mean. There is nothing wrong with black people.
ReplyDeleteI am respondeing to mallory s i dont think guys can enjoy chick flicks. one reason is that if you take a girl to a chick flick they probably already seen it and they will most likely ruin it for you.
ReplyDeleteIM RESPONDING TO SHANNON::::: Gays lesbians transvestites bisexuals also known as (LGBT) should be treated equally. There is absoultly nothing wrong with LBGT. They are not diseased. That is just how your born. I have a gay best friend and it took him forever to tell because they are afraid of the discrimination that is about to come. He tried to change the way he was. But you can't change something that is true.
ReplyDeletein responding to April F.
ReplyDeletethat is pretty irritating that kids have to sign a paper saying their gay and want to take someone of the same sex to a dance. there shouldn't be any reason for that. friends take friends to dances all the time. for instance what if nobody likes that girl/guy and they cant get a date, but they still want to go to the prom/dance. Its wrong to tell someone their freedom is taken away for a public school dance. maybe schools should stop this all over the world. gays aren't a different species, they are still the same.
response to shannon
ReplyDeletei aggre with her alot. homosexuality is ok, people who discrinmate aginst them are wrong evil people. i mean love is love. and people who are homophobe is well wrong!!!!! i mean think about it. if someone said i dont like you because your stright. it would hurt. people need to learn that we are all humans with feelings!!!!!
I am responeding to kayla m thing about muslims you should not discriminate people intel you get to know them
ReplyDeletei have read an article on s female muslim police officer that wanted to wear hear scarf while working, but her fellow cops wouldnt let her, personally, i think that if someone wants to wear a hat, a scarf, a helmet, or anything it should be allowed, it is her tradition, and i dont seem why you cant do that
ReplyDeletecoments on shannons: i think that the was that homoseuals get treated is so wrong and that if you have a problem with them just get over it and let them be they are not doing no harm one of my best friends are gay and i see the way he is treated it it makes me really sad because of what people say he once told me that he wanted to kill himself but luckely he had his friends and we all helped him through it all................
ReplyDeleteAdam D is right, you don't want a women that has an object disrupting there vision. if she was shooting and didn't see who it was and shot a kid, she would feel very bad.
ReplyDeleteThe article I did was called "Octuplets mom concerned about release of children." It's about a lady that had octuplets even know she already had 6 and now they are in the hospital. Some of them are smaller than they should be. The hospital and other people do not want her to have them because she has a unstable home and stuff and I don't think that is right. It is her kids; she had them and if she didn't think she could take care of them why would she make moreee.?!!!!
ReplyDeletei think that the artical where the are talking about chick flicks is kinda true but some boys dont like when they are watching of feeling femanin but if they dont like it they dont need to watch it or say anything bout it
ReplyDeleteI think that Ashley's article about J.K. Rowling is completely unfair. I mean, she did sell millions of books, but i'm sure there are other authors in the world that have sold more but didn't make a quarter of the money that she is making.
ReplyDeletei am responding to adam D this is a very true i agree to this because it is a very true if this lady were to be wearing this while being shoot at then she should be fired and not be aloud to become a cop and kicked off the force and out of the police acadamy
ReplyDeleteIn response to Kayla's posted comment is that your right about the French being wrong for judging someone from what they're wearing, but not from what they've came from. But if they were a suicide bomber then yes they shouldn't be there but other than that, noone should be judged from where they're from.
ReplyDeletethe article that im commenting on was blogged by John M. i have seen that movie, and i see it happen everyday, whether it be joking or not, and people are afraid of islamic people because of the 9/11 attacks on america by terrorists
ReplyDeleteIn response to Nick G i think that "Bomb attacks on the French Synagogues" is not nessary. its about petrol bombs that where tossed into a synagog.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was a dumb thing for some one to do especially at a synagog where jewish people go to worship.
I have no idea of how to stop this because its up to the people to stop discrimination. Thiers nothing you can do but hope everyone can see things through other peoples eyes.
my one idea for easing the discrimination is just accepting them for who they are and the second one is allowing them to live together. i know that you wouldn't like to have people telling you who you can and cant live with, and if you're gay you cant get married and live together at all and i think that's wrong.
ReplyDelete"harrassment costs a landlord $100,000!"
ReplyDeletemy article was about a landlord that would constantly harrass one of his renters. The landlord would come into this single mothers home without invitation and not only just harrass the mom, but the little boy as well. The landlord was charged with a 100,000 fine. i think that if you would fine a sexual harasser more money, it would be less likely to happen.
